I composed this piece specifically for the SU Chamber Choir's Spring 2011 France concert tour. Many famous organists/composers held positions at the Madeleine Church, such as Gabriel Fauré and Camille Saint-Saëns. The sanctuary has only one window in the dome, it houses a beautiful Cavaillé-Coll organ, and (oh by the way) the acoustics are quite wonderful...
My last performance during the Spring 2011 France concert tour. This Cavaille-Coll organ was one of the few instruments that was actually in tune, and the reeds were remarkable. This was recorded March 12, 2011 in Tours, France.
At the Notre Dame Cathedral in Reims, France (not to be confused with the most famous one in Paris), I improvised on the opening Ave Maria chant which was sung during the processional of our concert. Watch all the way to the end and notice the bells chiming the top of the 4pm hour...which I joke as being all part of the plan.
I got to visit the beautiful St. Sulpice in Paris, France, and the titular organist Daniel Roth gave me the opportunity to play on the huge Cavaille-Coll organ there. This performance is from March 11, 2011.
I composed this piece specifically for the Spring 2011 SU concert tour of France, and this clip is from our last performance of that tour on March 12, 2011.
This is kind of like the original recording's evil twin. It's a completely different style and mood. Sort of a light-hearted tribute, as well as full evidence of the versatility of the King of Pop's songs...
My second premiere as an undergrad composition student. This is the University of Pittsburgh Men's Glee Club performing my piece, using the words from Shakespeare's 8th sonnet.
